Icy Microneedle Patch Delivers Cell Therapy, Then Melts

It puts a cool new twist on a growing trend in drug delivery.

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) scientists have created a new microneedle patch to deliver cell therapies — but rather than using traditional materials for their needles, they used ice.

The challenge: Cell therapies use living cells to treat medical conditions. Stem cell transplants are a form of cell therapy, as are some types of cancer immunotherapy.

These cells are typically transplanted into the patient via an implant, injection, or surgical graft. Not only can those delivery methods be painful and invasive, they also carry a risk of infection and must be administered by an experienced professional.

“I hear the comments saying people are fearful [to work due to the coronavirus], yet I cannot find any properly put together data that actually says that,” said Schweikert on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Sunday with host Joel Pollak. “I believe that to be more anecdotal folk lore….We do have actual data of people saying, ‘Why should I take the $15-an-hour job when I’m almost making that much staying at home?”

In what was called “the most significant and successful attack on energy infrastructure we know of in the United States” hit the Colonial Pipeline that supplies about half of the gas used on the East Coast.

If the cyberattack is not fixed within the next 45 days it will lead to higher gas prices up and down the Eastern seaboard.

Ironically, the two countries most capable of mounting such an attack, China and Iran, are both being courted by Joe Biden.

Will prompts make people play nicer?

In an effort to become a kinder social network, Twitter is testing a function that asks users to reconsider what they share before smashing the send button.

In 2020, the notoriously toxic network tested prompts encouraging users to pause and reconsider potentially mean or offensive replies before posting them. Based on feedback from the trial, Twitter determined the effort to be effective. On Wednesday, the company announced it would begin rolling out the prompts across iOS and Android, beginning with English-language accounts.

During his latest show, Glenn Loury, an Ivy League economics professor and host of video blog The Glenn Show, blasted the teaching of identity politics in higher education, calling it a “criminal abdication of our pedagogic responsibilities,” while asserting a teacher’s responsibility is to challenge students’ preconceptions about themselves.

Loury was talking to John McWhorter, an author and linguistics professor at Columbia University, on Tuesday when he began discussing the issue of identity politics in American higher education.

“To teach young people that they are this [the color of their skin] is criminal in my opinion,” he stated.

“We’re to challenge them!” he exclaimed.

Germany to Return Colonial-Era West African ‘Benin Bronze’ Artifacts

BERLIN (AP) – Germany is returning hundreds of artifacts known as the Benin Bronzes that were mostly looted from West Africa by a British colonial expedition and subsequently sold to collections around the world, including German museums, authorities said Friday.

Foreign Minister Heiko Maas welcomed a deal reached with museums and authorities in Nigeria to work on a restitution plan for a substantial number of artifacts, calling it a “turning point in dealing with our colonial history.”

Germany´s minister for culture, Monika Gruetters, said the Benin Bronzes were a key test for the way the country deals with its colonial past.

“We are confronting our historic and moral responsibility,” she said.

Gruetters said the goal is to contribute to “understanding and reconciliation” with the descendants of those whose cultural treasures were stolen in colonial times. The first returns are planned for next year, she said.
