1776 Unites: The Tyranny of Low Expectations for Black Children

All over the nation, schools are lowering standards for students of color in the name of “anti-racism.” The subtle message is that our kids can’t succeed if the standards are objective — and we as an organization REJECT this message!

Black scholars and activists are speaking out against the lie that we need to lower our expectations in order for children of color to succeed. Instead, we are calling for high expectations, preparing students for SUCCESS, and agreeing as a society that all of our kids have the same innate potential. ????????????

Watering down standards for Black children sends a message to our kids that they should give up early and often. Ask your kids what their schools are teaching about Black success and resilience — and make sure they’re sending a message that we can ALL succeed in the face of hardship.
