Twitter will ask users to review ‘offensive’ tweets before sharing

Will prompts make people play nicer?

In an effort to become a kinder social network, Twitter is testing a function that asks users to reconsider what they share before smashing the send button.

In 2020, the notoriously toxic network tested prompts encouraging users to pause and reconsider potentially mean or offensive replies before posting them. Based on feedback from the trial, Twitter determined the effort to be effective. On Wednesday, the company announced it would begin rolling out the prompts across iOS and Android, beginning with English-language accounts.
